of coursewell first off. the first console I will talk about of course is the TASCAM DM4800 recording console. a 48 channel professional console for recording, editing, sound design, live work and more. it was originally designed for fully sighted users to navigate their way around a console for automated recording work but having recently road tested this console and spent time with tascam we now have a blind friendly console. spoken as well. a modified version of the software which is voiceover compliant as of last month gives true navigation and feedback of channels, effect chains, automation and more. bbut this console is not for the faint of heart. it is highly complex in power and operation and is designed for heavy duty work.
Radical technologies produce similar desks which give remote functionality and more and are rather friendly to blind users but lack a fair bit of functionality.
there are a few other consoles around that do work quite well but in a blind studio I wouldnt have them in here at all. because of sound quality and functionality.
these consoles I talk about give direct hardware and software control from the console so can steer logic, cubase, even pro tools. but as I say these are hyper intelligent consoles with remarkable power and sophistication.
for smaller studios or mobile recording. consoles including the now out of production yamaha O1X, Tascam FW1884 and 1082 and the M Audio Projectmix I/O either with or without protools 7.4.1 are ideal for remote operation of a mac based studio. but there are some small limitations. the software you work with will need configuring to allow the console listed in this section to take full control. other small issues include encoders with multi data assigns so that per tap, a function is assigned automatically. by default pan assign, press again, effect send return etc. see the slight problem.
as analogue consoles in recording studios are being phased out for more versatile and expandable systems, manufacturers like mackie,Dolby consoles, soundcraft and others are stopping or have stopped production of these fine analogue beasts.
therefore digital is the way to go. lew On 24 Mar 2008, at 16:55, Rich Caloggero wrote:
Hi Lewis. .Can you say a bit more about these pieces of gear? Are they stand- alone hardware recording/mixing consoles? In the message below, you say:"they are hyper intelligent desks which blind people canfully work without the need of navigating through logic."Thanx in advance. -- Rich ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lewis Brock" <lewisjbrock@xxxxxxx> To: <macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2008 5:10 AMSubject: [macvoiceover] Re: Accessible pro audio systems. some good newssadly for a logic user or any other DAW application, I advise systems like the radical technologies SAC, TASCAM DM4800, DigiDesign Icon and others as they are hyper intelligent desks which blind people can fully work without the need of navigating through logic. you can look at cheaper solutions including yamaha's O1X, M-Audio's Project Mix 8/o and tascam's FW1884lew On 22 Mar 2008, at 03:15, Ginny wrote:Hi there, Lewis.I did own Logic Pro for a minute, <smile>, but was unable to get it to work with VO. I am in direct contact with Propellorheads to get the ball rolling with accessibility and voiceover intergration with reason 4. reason 4 is a production level sample and synthesis rig which can work as a standalone system or be host driven via logic, cubase etc. it seems to work on certain areas and is navigateable to a level but not enough.CUBASE 4.1. well lets just say I'm going to grab someone at steinberg and then turn that person into someone with no thingy bobs.. I have adeveloper saying that they are going to get accessibility andinterface management designed for voiceover as well as all necessarywork but then there's some total job's worth who talks total rubbish who will find himself with no thingybobs. MOTU Digital Performer 5. well I've set them the challenge to delve deeply into accessibility with voiceover, interaction and necessary access changes. well if I dont hear anything from them soon. I guessits round 2. then maybe round 3, 4 and 5 until news finally sinks intothese people who are only too willing to make stupid money out of people to then sell a product with no access support. it would be nice to see action with Pro Tools but somehow I feel we won't . if digidesign can do what they say they will then cool. I would willingly invest in pro tools when it works. well now at least they released support for leopard. but its high time voiceover played a major part anyhow hope this gives you a little food for thought lewClick on the link below to go to our homepage. http://www.icanworkthisthing.comManage your subscription by using the web interface on the link below.//www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover Users can subscribe to this list by sending email to macvoiceover-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at //www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover-- No virus found in this incoming message.
