The important thing is not to get overwhelmed. Learning the Mac is like any other new task. It's a process that you have to take at your own pace. I would try to learn some VoiceOver basics first. Use the quick start guide with control-option-command-F8 and go through that entirely to get comfortable with VoiceOver basics. Once you do that, make your goals small at first. Pick an application to start with, like Mail or Text Edit, and try to get familiar with it using what you have learned with VoiceOver. Study the material that is on my website and in many other places and listen to the podcasts that are available. Vision Australia is a good place to start, as well as those on the Blind Cool Tech website. I have some Lion basics demonstrations in my demonstrations section. Just keep in mind that every little battle you win is one step in the right direction. Just don't let yourself get flustered. If you start to feel frustrated, walk away from the Mac for a time and come back when you clear your mind. If you are a Windows user, do your best to separate your thinking from the Windows screen reader way of doing things. Yes, if similar concepts help you get things straight in your mind, that's fine, but don't think VoiceOver will or should act like JAWS or Window-Eyes and that the Mac OS is like Windows. This attachment will only make the learning process more difficult and slow your progress significantly. Trust me on that, as I was there. Take Care John D.
