Hi Tracy,
     OK, to me, this sounds like a problem with the phone itself.  If you can't 
download any apps directly onto the phone and you have nothing on it, I think 
there is a hardware problem.  This might be worth a call to Apple support or a 
trip to the Apple Store.  I don't know if resetting the phone to factory 
defaults would help, but that might be something to consider.
