Well, maybe they could borrow some from Iran, or North Korea, or someone.

At the height of the Cold War, North American defence depended on, among other things, radar installations in Canada. If I understood the story from a relative in the Canadian Forces who worked on maintenance of those installations correctly, the ONLY source for certain components was the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.

Of (perhaps?) related interest: the other day, for no apparent reason, I started singing over and over, and then translating into German, 'The Grand Old Duke of York' ....
