I still get no log output and do not understand why you do as the log levels should not let it be output. Therefore as far as I can tell lou_allround, lou_translate, etc are working fine.

You will have to give further details on exactly what you do to get this incorrect output, then hopefully someone can reproduce it.

Redirection does not work when using the lou_allround tool because you use it

On reproducing the bug, try passing in a string like (excluding quotes):
"k5"

I get a wrong back translation when entering that in lou_translate when
invoked with command line:
lou_translate -b en-us-g2.ctb

Regarding log levels, I do not get the logging output with lou_translate
and the default level is INFO where as the messages should be going out
at DEBUG.

Yes it would be good to add options to the liblouis tools to configure
the log levels and optionally where to send the log output, but it feels
like low priority at the moment (IE. as output should not appear with
lou_translate and if it does redirection works).

I'd like to help but as I said I can't reproduce Ken's issue.

As far as I can see from the code, the default log level is LOG_INFO,
and the messages Ken is talking about are LOG_DEBUG messages. That's
also confirmed by running lou_translate: I'm not seeing the messages.

Michael, do you have an idea what's going on?

Hi Ken,

out.txt should only contain the translated text, you are seeing the
informational/debugging messages
because they are being printed out to stderr.

Maybe Bert/Michael can have a look at adding in the default logging to
the appropriate locations as discussed in a previous thread.

thanks,

I just checked out the library and built it fresh to make sure that I had the

Cat words |lou_translate en-us-g2.ctb >out.xt

The messages show up. I actually added the path to my tools incase it didn't
install so I know I am using the ones in the fresh checkout and build.

Hi Ken,

I'm not seeing these debug messages. Are you using the latest version
from master? I remember Michael added some debug messages for which I
then set the level to DEBUG, so they shouldn't show up by default
anymore.

I was trying to do some testing and the lou_translate command spams with output
and it did not use to do this. It shows the in buff, out buff, and it shows a
message saying translating. You used to be able to turn these messages on in
lou_allround but not in lou_translate. This makes it hard to test on large
files if it spams you with all kinds of output. It used to translate a file
silently and quickly. Is there a reason this has been changed?
