Subjects in a photograph are sharp. Non-subjects are better when not sharp because one's brain tends to dismiss un-sharpness as not important.

My eyes immediately focus on the tree and I have a lot of trouble paying attention to the flag.

I understand Jim, and looked at that way, I agree.

Clearly, I could have focussed on the flag, or both...


but I chose to do it this way...


It gives me a certain feeling, but, then again, maybe the tree is the subject...
