[korgypark] MIDI signal inducing noise using 05R/W serial connection

I'm getting faint signal noise using the Korg 05R/W PC I/F connection method.
The noise (heard on the Korg's analog outputs) happens only during any MIDI
transmission (notes, velocity, pan volume, etc.) sent from the PC to the
Korg. It sounds like faint clicks or buzzes... "fwp... fwp fwp fwp..." It
can be heard from the Korg even if the Korg's physical volume fader is all
the way down. The noise is not heard from the korg when played directly by a
keyboard.

My trusty tech at work says it sounds like a ground issue, so I'm going to
try troubleshooting with that in mind. The serial cable I'm using is correct
per Korg's instructions. It has the chassis grounding collar of each plug
end connected through the cable's shield, which is not explicitly indicated
in Korg's wiring diagrams but typical of normal serial connections. Don't
know if the return audio path from Korg back to PC is looping the ground
somehow, but I will test that.

It would help enormously to know if anyone else is hearing this. To check,
you can set the korg's instrument volume value down way low to 5 or so to
minimize signal to noise ratio, crank up your audio monitor and tap a minimum
velocity note. You can also hear plainly by running the MIDI channel volume
setting up and down from a sequencer, which sends a stream of MIDI data
through the cable.

Replies appreciated :)
