When certain characters are adjacent, there's too little space between them - sometimes one letter goes over or under another a bit or seems to - and they're hard to read. Both fonts you mention, >Courier and FixedSys are monospaced. ------ You know, after looking more carefully, I agree. Maybe that's why I finally settled on it. FixedSys seems to be much darker than Courier. Seems to be san serif as well.
