Thanks, that confirmed what I thought. I'll explain why I asked after I've tried something.

Meanwhile, I started up, on IVAO, last night at Belfast City. No controller there and I put in a VFR flightplan to cover circuitsat below 2000'. To keep out of Aldergrove airspace I set out to fly the circuits round the South side of the field. There had been a controller at Aldergrove but he'd logged off.

Whilst flying downwind I was surprised to be contacted by a Scottish Centre controller, who clearly wanted to control me. It soon became clear that, with two Irish flyers on the ground at Aldergrove and one en route, he meant to cover both fields, giving clearances, taxi instructions etc. I didn't escape his clutches when I landed, filed a plan for a flight to Ronaldsway, direct at 2000', and started to taxi. I soon got a message asking me if I was intending to fly again, followed by taxi instructions, takeoff clearance and departure cover. I only escaped, this time, by saying I was now 30 miles from IOM and would like to change frequency to Ronaldsawy, where John was on the throne. Even then I had to await his decision.

Am I right to be surprised by this Centre involvement, with a VFR flight like that?

To make it worse, the Irish chaps' transmissions were all crytal clear, though probably in Swahili, whilst the controller was of the "be impressed by the speed of my bored delivery" school, with serious breakup.

Yes

"If I pick the code for the APM20, for the flightplan, and that code is
APM2, does the controller receive just the APM2 code and does he have
any data on what it implies in terms of performance?"

Controllers should know their codes - they are just part of the huge volume
of useless data one accrues in practise. Everyone picks up the common stuff
quickly - a B738, A343, AT72 and C421 are absorbed quickly, but we also get
to know most of the others from experience so if a L188, GL5T, ULAC or PAY3
call us we mostly know what they are. In IVAO the codes can be found in IVAO
Eye.

Even if we don't know the code the height and speed of an aircraft are
enough to give a rough idea of its performance band. If we are curious we
can always ask the aircraft.

Subject: [jhb] IVAO Flightplan Aircraft

A few questions for Bones. Since he has previous IVAO form and has
probably read more, he may know the answers, where the rest of us may be
guessing.

I mentioned, yesterday, that only a small proportion of Flightplan form
aircraft codes are actually supported by downloadable IVAO aircraft,
which prompts me to look further into the situation.

Am I right in assuming that only the Flightplan data goes to ATC, with
no information as to whether we've downloaded the IVAO aircraft?

If I pick the code for the APM20, for the flightplan, and that code is
APM2, does the controller receive just the APM2 code and does he have
any data on what it implies in terms of performance?

Other questions follow, depending on the answers.
