windows firewall

I just removed sygate, I am not sure if it was a jaws 6.0 problem or in the
application. Whenever I was on-line about every 2 minutes jaws would stop
talking. There would then be a beep and jaws would start again. My wife
could see a message stating that a windows kernel application was blocked.
We could not find any way to unblock it was not in the list. Also jaws would
not read the popup screen.
To have something running I just activated windows firewall. Does it work
with jaws?
I am using jfw 6.0 and sometimes 6.1 windows xp sp2
