Use the Apps key to open the context menu and send the message from that
point.

I, too, have had the same problems with Windows Mail.

I found the contacts list under Tools menu but when I press enter on the 
contact I want to mail to, it takes me to the properties menu instead of 
creating a new message with that person in the To line.
