Who has vision? I'm just about as blind as a bat--even worse than I was
as a youngster. However, as a faithful subscriber to audio-video
publications for almost 30 years, I'm conscious of what it looks like to
others who might want to watch with me. I come from the school that
says you do it right, regardless.

How do you get menus to come up? How do you get anything to come up?
For me, that main screen has always been blank, so this really intrigues
me, and I want to learn whatever you know.

Ted

Windows Media Center Edition 2004 works great with JAWS for me.
As for the 4x3 16.9 issue, I've never had a probelm with that either. I
know it does support the differant sizes and even if you have a 16.9
program on a 4.3 screen it comes up in letterbox format which is good
enough.

Just a point but as a JAWS user I don't really have an issue
with how the video looks. I'm surprised anybody with enough sight to see
a movie would bother learning JAWS as there are much easier alternatives
for low vision users.

Are you saying you actually got the thing to work?
Version 2005 looks like nothing but a blank screen. If Media Center
(the app, not the OS)is usable, I'd like to know more, and would be
willing to pursue it off list at tlisle@xxxxxxxxx However, I'll bet
there are one or two others who are as nonplussed as I am.

I'd especially like to know how DVD friendly it is. Now
days we have old TV shows and movies in standard (4-3) aspect ratio,
whereas most newer flicks will have a 16-9 alternative, something which
neither Media Player nor Real Player addresses adequately. I've been
giving serious consideration to upgrading an OEM of WinDVD, but, if
there's another viable alternative, I'd like to explore it.

I've used Windows Media Centre 2004 and found it
very accessible with JAWS 6.2. I really liked it as it was much easier
to use than Windows Media Player. I also found having the ability to
read the TV schedules using JAWS and record programs was fantastic.

From all I know, yes, you have to have
JAWS Pro for Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Do not confuse this with the program
Windows Media Center which can run under Windows Xp Home.
The Windows XP Media Center Edition is
just one of the several WindowsXP versions such as Home and Pro.
It is getting harder and harder to find
a new computer which is *not* a Media Center or Pro version of XP.

Is it true that you must have Jaws Pro
to run Windows Media Center?
