Hi, Alice:
Yes, but only for certain applications. E-mail might be read in German if it is in HTML and if the person sending it to you has their language set to German in their e-mail client. Outside of e-mail, it is also sporadic. In MS word and in html documents, it is possible to set the language of the document. Jaws then detects what language was set for the document and causes eloquence or the realspeak solo direct voices to switch to that language. Below, I have pasted the link to the official homepage for the city of Stuttgart in southern Germany if you wish to try it out. Clock on it and you will notice Jaws switching to German if you have the language installed and if Detect Language Change is on. It should be since on is the default setting:

http://www.stuttgart.de/

Try it out, might be fun for you. This might work in pdf's too but I've never tried it. Never seen it work for plain text or for rtf though rtf might do it if there's a way to set the language of the document.
Regards,
Alex

Hi, Alex,
What is language detect? If I get an e-mail in German and have this language detect, whatever it is, turned on, will JAWS automatically read the German text in German instead of reading the German text as if it were English? (that's always good for a few laughs!)
Thanks.
Alice
