Nope, Craig you aren't quite correct here. You are right that the label goes on the unrecorded surface. But, Mr. Langda is correct in that most damaged CD's are damaged not from the aluminum bottom layer, but actually from the top. The top side is very thin and it is nore likely to cause damaged to the substrait of the CD over time through leaching of chemicals. Also, never write with a ballpoint pen on the top of a CD-r for the same reason. That's why they recommend use of a marker.
