Problem is: When I run the uninstaller, all I see is an I button and a Q button.
Once I press the I button nothing happens, no matter how long I wait. If I
press the only remaining button, the Q button, it aborts. No matter what I do,
it won't uninstall.

After too much of a hassle, I found out that the latest version of flash
player does not install over a previous version. You need to uninstall
the previous with a little utility at

I mean the system tray in Windows XP. I'v figured that out, but I'm still
having trouble installing Adobe Flash player even though all of my web pages
are closed, and even Windows Messenger is closed.

what OS are you using? Second, what do you mean by task tray? Do you mean
the system tray or the task bar?
