James,
It seems to me that AVG hogs more resources today than it used to.
Somewhere long about 7 or so months ago AVG became much more greedy?
I am running JAWS 7.0 and, ever so often, JAWS just stalls out for a second
or so. I thought it was, most likely, my Triple Talk and buffering but,
after hearing of this phenomena from others I am not so sure it is Triple
Talk's problem.

your computer?)

It's not a JAWS thing, unfortunately. AVG is murder on system resources in
general. It's just more noticeable with JAWS. I used to run AVG on the
family computer, and JAWS didn't start up automatically there. I had AVG set
up to scan for viruses on boot, and that was perhaps my worst mistake. Thing
took a good 5 minutes to load, and was slower than the second coming during
scans. But, kill AVG, and that computer's faster than the laptop I'm using
now.
