Hi David,

  Isn't notepad listed in the left hand pane of the keyboard manager when it 
first opens?  Just open the keyboard manager.  Focus should already be in 
the left pane.  Just type n repeatedly and see if you cycle through the name 
notepad.

  If it isn't there, create a user notepad script in script manager.  If you 
assign a key to the script (go through the control+e dialog to create the 
script skeleton first), a jkm file will be created when you compile, and 
then keyboard manager will know about notepad.
