Tennant,
I can see umlauts using Messenger so it seems that freelists are not
the problem.
I know nothing of Posty but I wonder if the font you use for the
display is the cause of lack of umlauts. You could try Trinity, which
does contain all the odd characters that those who live on the island
across the Channel seem to need :-)
