Posting etiquette gives you > a couple of choices: The first posting etiquette being that the owner of the list - and I take John as such since this list is from Castle - decides on the rules for posting and I agree that in SOME cases top posting is best. And if you snip the posting etiquette does suggest to do so politely I think, that is with entries like "[snip]" or such, but surely not "[snip lots and lots of lines]" which suggests that there was much garbage (even if you think it to be such). > - Just quote what's relevant, even if it's really short, to give > context. Then you should to that too - the line with "Hi" from John was not relevant for your flaming him. (I didn't snip it since it is relevant for just this paragraph.) > - Don't quote any of it, but provide a short summary in your own > words. Nice idea assuming everybody wanting to just offer some fast help is expected to spend much time in rewording, compressing, summarising... with no corresponding benefit as for the usefulness of the reply but even more work for others to read the reply since now they have to read all of it since it's not a quote of something they remember. Please do accept that some of us out here are happy to help and rather reply to four posts with the risk of offending one reader (you) opposed to fulfill your view of etiquette and thus due to needing much more time to reply only help two (that is the one we reply as for the topic to and you as for your etiquette). > Ideally respond to the OP, where the original question was asked, > not some reply which was leading on to another topic. As for clarity: You mean like you did in this posting where you did adjust the subject since you drifted off topic from a simple and valid question to blaming... But wait, you did not ... You might have problems > if you have several large PCI cards in all the slots. Well this helps for the clarity you claim ... to start off a reply completely off-topic (not to mention that is just about things you are free to look into on your mailing lists but not in the ones run by others) and then to come back not even quoting properly since the two lines "It is quite possible ... being used" is only half quoted but perhaps you assume that your mail client should take care of this. PLEASE do NOT continue this thread... but spend the time on useful work instead - and be it to simply have a nice evening with a good beer, or fix known bugs in your programs or ports... -- Herbert --- To alter your preferences or leave the group, visit //www.freelists.org/list/iyonix-support Other info via //www.freelists.org/webpage/iyonix-support
