Sounds like you are running QuickFiler, which often gets in the way of alt
rename operations. There is _no_ functionality in the default RISC OS filer
which could possibly lead to a file being opened (I assume you mean "run")
from a return keypress.
I specifically fixed a bug in alt-renames which (from inspection) would have
meant that the operation sometimes failed. I'm not sure which version of
RISC OS this went into - John would have to tell you that.
Now that the Filer sources are published on the ROOL site, any suitably
enthusiastic user/programmer out there is now in a position to investigate
any remaining bug themself, if they wish.
