I am running a Promise UltraTrak SX8000 with 8 80 gig drives, it has been in
service for just over a year. I LOVE it and will purchase more RAID space that
utilizes IDE drives. I will say that test we did early on show that SQL and
Oracle do not bode as well on IDE drives, the SCSI system are hands down
faster. In side by side in most other operations the IDE and SCSI are about the
same.

trust me it was my idea to go IDE, but I have to admit that all the RAIDs (6 so
far, running 100GB to 200GB drives) have been very stable and have hot swap via
the 3ware card. And the cost for 2TB was well under 10K (USD), so had to defend
SCSI cost. waiting for the full release of serial ATA for increase in transfer
speed. there is one caveat though, my data on the RAID is static. once copied
to the RAID it willnever be changed, just read only access. that may make some
difference.
