Why don't you write to the author of the book and ask?
Is that a problem with the book or reader?
I have not had any issues with evince, okular, xpdf displaying PDF
files till now.
If you are not sure where the problem is then use firefox/chrome's pdf
reader plugin (built in) or acroread (from Adobe) to open the file.
