I use bsnl broadband connection.And yesterday tried connecting
my
laptop to the internet.I have set the dhcp and yet unable to connect to
the internet.I do get IP assigned with 192.168.1.4 and the DNS as
192.168.1.1 .but still iam unable to ping any server outside .
What could be the problem ?
i did the same with windows too ,it didnt set the ip at all,all the fields
blank.and when i set the fields myself no change was reflected.could it be
some hardware problem ?
Step 1: Ping localhost to make sure your network modules are fine.(most
cases will work)
step 2: Ping gateway seems to be 192.168.1.1 .... if ping is fine , then
whatever the problem is , its from your modem to the outside world or a dns
problem.
Step 3: ping any ip , like 4.2.2.2 or 4.2.2.3 (free dns servers) .........
if pings then your connection is fine .You are able to communicate with the
outside world.If doesnt ping check your modem config
Step 4.Set a different dns server like , 4.2.2.2 or opendns servers .
With these 4 steps you can first identify the problem .
Once you identify where the problem is , comp to modem or modem to outside
world or address translation or network modules ............ probably you
can post back and it will be easier to help you further
