[icon-discuss] some questions

So like th erest of you at one time, I'm waiting for my icon to arrive.
Have there been software updates? Are they announced on this list, or only on th announcement list. How do you update the icon?
How well does the icon work with external keyboards?
If you read books not from bookshare just as a .txt file, I know there's a form you can use to fill out author info etc. Any way to do that more automatically if you had many .txt files of books? It would be cool if the first line of the .txt .brf whatever the file was -- was accepted as the title and the second line as the author. I heard you can browse files with the music player by folder and file and not only by the tag3 info.
How often does the harddrive run?
If you're using data on an sd card or flash can you keep the hd off?
How invasive is the sound of the harddrive when making recordings, both from internal and external mics? How much have people done from the console, how many of the normal linux commands are available? Anyone try adding extra packages like network tools? One thing I'm going to have to try soon is changing the keyboard entry to Dvorak when using external qwerty keyboards.

Just think, the icon is several times smaller than a voice note and already does a lot more.

Tried that, when I did it said I was already subscribed. On the list of periodicals the New Yorker show up, it says unsubscribed, though.

Hi,

What you want to do is take option 1 "re-subscribe". Point to the
periodical in question and press the options menu. You should now get the
option to re-subscribe.

Hope this helps,

Didn'
t know that when I unsubscribed from the New Yorker. Now it says
unsubscribed, but when I try to go back and add it in I get an "already
subscribed" message. How can I get this one back?

Hi Bill,

There is no way at the moment to delete a subscription and try again. It
is
on our list of things to be fixed.

Have a great day,

Hi.
I downloaded the latest New Yorker tonight, and the issue was incomplete.
How can I redownload it? I tried deleting the files from the directory,
but

it still showed in the list, only now the Icon went nowhere when I tried
to
access it, so I know the files are gone. Any way to reset it to try
again?

Hello all.

My Wireless network is configured with 128-bit WEP and my Icon connects
to it just fine. To be sure all settings are correct, use the Network
Manager to view/edit the profile for your network.

Has WPA security been added yet?

Best regards,
