Bill:

It would be interesting to know if you have the problem if you simply
remove the card, wait a short while, then replace the card without
changing its contents in another device.

No, doing it from the main menu.  Take card out, add some files,
replace it 
and then go to file explorer. Gets hung on the opening file
announcement, no 
matter how long I let it go.
Then I reset and it works right away.
