Since we intend to only deliver compatibility libraries for older 
releases in R2 and make a clean API cut, I'm fond of the idea of 
including the current status quo (with a bit of FBC protection, and 
cleanup) as a public API in R1.
That would give them a wide usage, and we'll get lots of feedback about 
what we could improve :-)

I would just ignore this; if there is a closed source application that 
is using it, linking the old libpng.so into its lib/ folder shouldn't 
be too much to ask for (we could provide the old version with Haiku, 
though, as a convenience).
