[haiku-development] Unable to create partition

Well, I've just taken possession of my ZaReason (linux) laptop,
with the intention of using it as my Haiku development machine
... and I'm already running into lots of trouble!
I did successfully install a nightly build onto a created partition (the first
extended one as it happens), but I'm having some problems (that
I'll probably get into later) so I want a second partition in part of the
85GB of empty space on the drive, to install other revs for comparison.
However, when I try to create this, I always get the message: "Validation
of the given creation parameters failed." I've tried from both the installed
Haiku and an older USB drive -- same result.
Can anyone help?
