Hi all,

IMHO we can declare Joel the winner of this contest - I think we got a real
nice tip and great inspiration.

Thanx to Darren for throwing in a price to make it even more interesting!

Congratz to Joel and his support guy ;-)

Best regards

/Jakob

I also hadn't heard of SoDimm before reading Jakob's post. Was talking over
the differences between laptops and desktops with someone in the support
department here (i'm in development at the moment although I tend to wander
over there as the problems are more interesting). He mentioned SoDimm and I
found the appropriate WMI class, wrote the query and did some testing. So
he certainly deserves a lot of the credit for it if it turns out to be the
solution.

Just goes to show the power of the Internet! Heck, I don't even know what
SoDimm is except it sounds like something I'd order in a restaurant J

Hi Joel,

This looks very promising - I'll have to test it a bit, but really great
approach I think!

I'll get back to you when I know more, but looking at this link,

think you might have nailed it as the first one here!

How about:

Select * from Win32_PhysicalMemory where FormFactor != 12

Returns True on computers that do not have SoDimm form factor memory and
False on computers with SoDimm form factor memory. The assumption is that
all laptops will have this style memory and desktops will not. Works in my
environment, but it's a pretty small environment.
