I could be wrong about this, but it seems to me there are some more things you should try before taking that drastic step. Here are some more things to consider. I have a Netmos serial card. It actually did come with a parallel port, which is connected to the card by a ribbon cable, and the parallel connector is designed to be affixed to another one of the computer's PCI slot. Is there any chance that the ribbon cable and parallel port piece are still in the box and need to be plugged in? Probably not, if it worked before. Also, have you tried uninstalling the Brother printer? Maybe it doesn't really use LPT1, but somehow takes it away. It sounds like you tryied uninstalling other things, but I'm not sure if that included the printer. Finally, before you do this procedure for going back to defaults, you might want to try going bback to different system restore points. Windows is supposed to set them whenever something is installed. I realize you may have a lot of them now that you have done so many installs and uninstalls. But you should be able to go back a couple of days and see if there are positibve changes. Also, if you really think the problem was in the Service Pack 2, you could go to add/remove and remove all the updates. At least Microsoft says you can do that. Since the Netmos came with two serial ports, could you plug the Blazer into the second one? Another possibility might be to try a USB to parallel adapter. There are the normal cheap ones that require software, but there are some hardware solutions also that use USB and reequire no software installation. Sorry about all you're going through.
