Well, I did NOT understand it. Re-reading the emails I realized that the idea is to distribute one tarball or jar file or something, with N binaries for N platforms in it. The host will use a manifest to identify and load the required binary. Is that correct? If so, then of course it makes sense to have 1 copy of the metadata in the archive along with the N binaries. But then, who's going to want 3 or 6 copies of the program text for N platforms when they are only ever going to use 1? Still, it's an interesting idea. ============================================ Michael Gogins gogins at pipeline period com Irreducible Productions CsoundVST, an extended version of Csound for programming music and sound Available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound/ ============================================ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Davis" <paul@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <gmpi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2003 10:44 PM Subject: [gmpi] Re: Reqs draft > >But don't you have to have that anyway, to support different platforms? > >Perhaps I am not completely understanding you. > > i think you are. the issue is that by embedding it in the shared > object, ignoring any other issues with that approach, you have to have > N copies of the metadata rather than just one. > > not a showstopper, but something to consider. > > --p > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > Generalized Music Plugin Interface (GMPI) public discussion list > Participation in this list is contingent upon your abiding by the > following rules: Please stay on topic.
