For the sake of conversation. I think Clyde (if that is his real name lol)
is just some guy who thought he was doing a good thing for a relatively
finite audience and had no idea what geocaching would become.
Does anyone think that when Jeremy left "The OCB" in a bucket and posted
coordinates to a usenet group thought, "Hmmmmmm maybe if I leave these beans
in a bucket NOW -- within 5 years I could be much more wealthy and influence
the free time of hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of people all over
the world!!!"?
Meanwhile, Clyde (if that is his real name) takes up this little, seemingly
limited- interest hobby (because really -- how many people would have
thought they ever needed an expensive GPSr - much less make it the center of
free time activities. That would just be .. absurd wouldn't it????) and
creates a personal tool he offers to "Friends", originally for free I
believe, then sees a chance to make a few bucks and charges a little. Along
the way he makes some statement about free for life, and I'll STILL bet he
had no clue it would come to "This."
I think this guy is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I'll also bet
someone will eventually "borrow" his program and publish it as freeware.
Full of spyware and bots of course.
He could always change the name thereby killing off the first one -- ending
its "life". I think that's what I would do. GSAK II -- works for
Microsoft. Photoshop. Nintendo.
Think about it -- this group only exists and we only get to discuss this
because some geek got the idea to leave canned goods in a field. How can
you hold anyone to anything that came about as a result of that??

Not getting into the GSAK good/bad controversy, or if Clyde is being fair,
but the term "Lifetime".
I've bought items that have "Limited lifetime warranty". If there is a
limit, why not say 5 year or 25 year?
Working on cars a lot over the years I would buy most of my parts from
AutoZone because they offer "Lifetime Guarantee" on must mechanical parts
(starters, engine internal parts, suspension, brakes, etc). What that means
to them is they will replace the part ONCE and then the lifetime warranty is
over. Still much better than a 90 day or 1 year, but still misleading think.
