Mike, it looks like I'm bringing you back a working Maxtor 160g SATA drive!
In my testing the motherboard was able to perform a low-level format to the drive. I then tried dban, it worked. Then tried DSL and fdisk'd the drive, mkfs.ext3 and fsck.ext3 the drive, it worked!
Downloaded the PowerMax software from Maxtor. It passed the testing!I got the drive doing a mkfs.ext3 -c -c -v /dev/sda1 right now (really long test) and so far no errors were reported...
