I wonder why I couldn't get it to do anything on my system, not even with PowerMax? I wonder if I have another bad MB, or maybe the nvidia sata raid controller just doesn't like the drive. I seem to remember seeing something about Maxtor sata drives and nvidia sata controllers. I figured since the drive originally worked that this drive wasn't affected. hmm... Maybe since the fs was frazzed when the mobo died the drive was left in a state that the nvidia controller couldn't deal with. Looks like I need to do a little more research.
Thanks for all your work, definitely over and above the call of duty. Mike----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Zimmerman" <richard@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Mike,THANKS! for letting me use that drive! Turns out the SATA ports on my motherboard are just fine. The drive Dale had marked bad (Samsung SATA) *IS* dead.... AND...Mike, it looks like I'm bringing you back a working Maxtor 160g SATA drive! In my testing the motherboard was able to perform a low-level format to the drive. I then tried dban, it worked. Then tried DSL and fdisk'd the drive, mkfs.ext3 and fsck.ext3 the drive, it worked!Downloaded the PowerMax software from Maxtor. It passed the testing!I got the drive doing a mkfs.ext3 -c -c -v /dev/sda1 right now (really long test) and so far no errors were reported...Anything else you want tried?
