It can also be a permission problem.
Try the following, but you also get off list a sendmail.cf file.
chmod 755 /
chmod 755 /var
chmod 755 /var/spool
chmod 755 /etc
chmod -R 644 /etc/mail
chmod 755 /etc/mail
chmod 600 /etc/mail/aliases
chmod 744 $0
chown root:root /
chown root:root /etc/mail
=20
newaliases
/etc/rc2.d/*S88sendmail stop
/etc/rc2.d/*S88sendmail start
