Normally it's not a good thing to just delete the log file.
Logging carries on as per normal to the file you've just deleted but now you
can't see it any more.
A better way of reducing(emptying) the log file is to do a 'cp /dev/null
logfilename'.
Cheers,
Frits.

Subject: [foxboro] /opt partition keeps filling up

List,
The /opt partition on one of our AW51E's keeps filling up, and I can't
find any files (using "ls -lR" and exporting the result to an Excel file
and sorting by file size) that would account for the increase. This
AW51E has AIM*Historian v3.12 and DMCBridge on it, and those were my
first suspects, but I can't find anything suspicious. I checked the
swap file, which is also on /opt, and it hasn't grown.

One weird thing that happened when I first noticed this is that a log
file in /opt/dmcplus/app/<DMC+ APP NAME>/logs got really huge, as in
over 1 GB, and I deleted it, and we were back to a more normal disk
usage. But ever since that day, the partition keeps filling up over the
course of about 3-4 days, as if that log file is filling up even though
there is no actual log file showing up in the list. We happened to be
step-testing a completely different DMC+ app when that started, so I
initially blamed it on the DMC+ data collection program, but we stopped
that last Friday and it's still doing it.

Is there a way for the /opt partition to fill up even though no files
are getting bigger? Is there a better way to get the file sizes in /opt
other than "ls -lR"? Any help would be appreciated. Right now, I'm
deleting AIM*Historian files to buy some time, but I won't be able to do
that much longer.

Tim
