Re: [foxboro] /opt partition keeps filling up

Are you really sure it's not the /var system that's full? Check /var/logs.
Eliminate any large log files there. Also check /var/spool/mail and /var/tmp

Try "du -sk /var/*"

        Tim,

What file is growing? There really should not be any files in that
directory
        that grow without bounds.

If it is aos_map.out or aos_map.err, check the value of the debug flag:

        omget <AppName>.debug

debug should be in lower case. The <AppName> should be upper case.

        Regards,

I had a feeling you'd say "stop and restart the application." Oh, well,
looks like the uptime on our DMC application is going to be a little low
        this week.

Thanks for your help, though. I was sort of thinking along those lines,
but now I'm pretty sure that's it.

Once you've deleted the logfile the only thing you can do is to stop and
        start the application.
Thsi will create a new logfile.
But next time when it's growing out of hand do the cp /dev/null trick.
If you're are keen to keep the log file, write a little script that
        makes a
copy of it and then does the /dev/null trick to the original file.
You can have this script running from cron perhaps once a week or so.

The reason why it behaves like this is because the original application
keeps track of the logfile pointer by inode.

        Cheers,
        Frits.

OK, so what should I do now? Can I just start a new file with the same
name as the one I deleted using "touch"? =3D20

Normally it's not a good thing to just delete the log file.
Logging carries on as per normal to the file you've just deleted but now
        you
        can't see it any more.
A better way of reducing(emptying) the log file is to do a 'cp /dev/null
        logfilename'.
        Cheers,
        Frits.
