Terry, We think alike. My 1st thought was also to hunt down some new kids out of college but everyone I am working with are 30s-40s, and none are experienced programmers. And the IT folks are not that accessible. I have no idea where they even hide. I appreciate your suggestions and Alex's link to the Bourne Shell Scripting wiki site but that is the exact same site I was working from for the previous 3 hours trying to get a while/do loop working. No luck so I gave up and developed Plan B. Using omgetimp was the easy part and there were no loading issues. I'll stick with configuration and leave the programming to... the programmers. On to the next challenge... Thanks again to the List. Joseph M. Joseph, As Alex has stated, the omgetimp is much better than omget alone as the "IMP" uses the import table to prevent constant broadcast on the network. (Every CP must respond to every broadcast) Six omgets, every 2 seconds might overload your CP's, depending on type of CP. Over the years I have initiated many scripts and programs to collect data as you are wishing to collect data. With omget, I always paused for 1 second after each omget. If your import table is not full, you should be OK without the pause but you might start with a pause after 3 omgetimp. I used the word initiated above, because I am not a good programmer or even script writer but I know what I wanted and I had a pretty good understanding of how not to kill the system. I always sought out a new hire in the company, usually directly out of university where they spent plenty of time writing code or batch files, C+ stuff or the like on Microsoft based machines. Sometimes I had to guide them through UNIX but usually they were fine if I kept them under close watch to make sure they did not get too fancy and try to overload my AW. You might have to figure out how you want to toggle it ON and OFF or schedule it but the kids can write great code. The IT departments have keen kids that I managed to grab on my team for a few hours. Gave me plenty of time to talk to the kids about how critical these Process Control Systems are and how we need to be very cautious about any change to the system. It really helps if you have an off-line AW with C:B.P same as the live system for testing before going live.
