It happens in all environments. Sounds like a bad connection error. To control visibility we use a Boolean global variable which is made up of DMNAME and the suffix _TAGS, i.e. MYDM01_TAGS We then link $DMNAME_TAGS to the visibility of tags on foxview graphics. The global variables are created for each display manager on the box at start up by a script using the /opt/fox/bin/tools/omcrt -b MYDM01_TAGS (that sounds familiar!). A button is used to toggle $DMNAME_TAGS There were some rules about naming your global variables. I think a prefix will not work. Only a suffix will work. I can't test it at the moment as I don't have a real job.
