The reason is that the DMNAME variable is a string variable not a
numeric value so Foxview smurfs.

Here is the method I received from tac some years ago. We use it thru
the environment which is logged in to control visibility.

#Put this at the end of the /usr/fox/wp/data/init.user file
# Variable for current dbar enviroment.
gctsize=255
dmtlist=DBAR
dmllist=ENV_VIS

Then you must reboot the station for it to take effect. Now when you
want something to be visible use the action in Foxboro to run a display
command like the following.

Setl $ENV_VIS$DMNAME 1

And when you want it to disappear use
Setl $ENV_VIS$DMNAME 1

When you want appearance based on the environment login put the
following in all the env files.(0 = 0FF AND 1 = ON)

Dmcmd setl ENV_VIS$DMNAME 0

I used visibility with 2 states based on thresholds so I could
eventually create combinations of visibility such as low/med/high detail
or selected visibility based on logged in user. Such as 0 = off, 1 =
operator, 2 = assistant operator, 3 = mine.

Another little trick is I was able to create a display command to toggle
the $OAJLOG on and off.(which is only visible in my environment)

I use this variable (through the dbr button) to toggle a variable so
operators can toggle extra information on and off the screen. Helps with
clutter for operating conditions and then provides some detailed
information
when there is trouble.
Thank you,
Wes Stepherson
