One trick I've used in tha past is disabling the local policy for accessing the computer from the network for all users. Outlook and OWA are then locked out in 5.5. Been a while since I've used this trick, but it used to work like a charm. As with all suggestions, try it out in your lab first! -----Original Message----- From: Andy David [mailto:adavid@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 14, 2005 9:00 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Temporarily disabling user access during migration http://www.MSExchange.org/ That wont prevent users from connecting to the server via Outlook or OWA. -----Original Message----- From: Jason Lehrhoff [mailto:JLehrhoff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 14, 2005 8:29 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Temporarily disabling user access during migration http://www.MSExchange.org/ Block port 25 on your firewall during testing. You can enable for the IP addresses you want to test with, and then open it up completely when you are finished. -Jason -----Original Message----- From: Andy David [mailto:adavid@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 14, 2005 8:26 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Temporarily disabling user access during migration http://www.MSExchange.org/ http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;288894 for MAPI clients. -----Original Message----- From: A. What are your suggestions on ensring that users are not able to access the Exchange server during this 2-day period (we will tell them not to access the server but of course, there will always be those few users who will get in there anyway of they find the exchange server is available). At the same time we want to be able to complete the Exmerge import of the PST files, and do some testing with a handful of selected users so that they can connect via Outlook, check their profiles, mailboxes, folders etc., also OWA, so simply disconnecting the exchange server from the network is not feasible. Any suggstions or best practices for this situation? TIA!
