[ExchangeList] Re: Reverse Lookup 2

I got that same error when I clicked the Check DNS after changing the
FQDN for the SMTP server.

I just ignored the failure and set the name as it is known on the
internet.

So far, it is working. Email is going out and coming back in.

I checked the DNS Report and the error is not there any longer.

Maybe someone else can enlighten me on that error.

I have one question for you.

When I enter the FQDN for the delivery of SMTP (MAIL.autosoldnow.com)
and click on Check DNS it tells me The domain is not valid. Our FQDN is
a .local on our local DNS server, we do have a second forward zone
called autosoldnow.com that does have the MX setup as
mail.autosoldnow.com -> MAIL.autosoldnow.local.

So I ignore the DNS check failing and continue?

Regards,
Andrew

I searched Google for

change host name in ehlo exchange server

and got the following from http://www.experts-exchange.com/

In exchange system manager

ESM, Servers, <your server>, Protocols, SMTP. Right click on the SMTP VS
and choose Properties. Click on the tab "Delivery" and then "Advanced".
In the box labelled DNS enter what the server is known as on the
internet

On my exchange 2003 the box is labeled Fully-qualified domain name and
not DNS but I believe it is the correct name.

Enter the name that your server is known as on the internet.
(MAIL.autosoldnow.com)

I had the same issue with my email system. I don't think email was being
blocked but when I checked out our information on that DNS web site I
had the same warning about my mail servers claiming to be something
different than what they are known as on the internet. They claimed to
be what they are known as on our internal network.

Now I have to figure out that SPF record thing. News to me.

How do go about fixing that? I didn't design the network originally, I
just walked into it.

Your server is claiming to be asnmail.autosoldnow.local when it tries
to send email. When the other email system tries to look up the ip
address via a reverse dns lookup the ip address lookup returns
mail.autosoldnow.com. These two names are clearly not the same so the
other email server will think you are a spammer.

You need your exchange server to claim it is mail.autosoldnow.com when
it tries to send mail not asnmail.autosoldnow.local

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a
host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit
code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your
mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your
E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical
violation of RFC821 <http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/rfc821.htm> 4.3 (and
RFC2821 <http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/rfc.ch?detail=2821> 4.3.1).
Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A
record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use
a cached DNS record.

Can someone check to see if autosoldnow.com reverse lookup is properly
configured? It says on dnsstuff, and dnsreport that reverse lookup works
but that it points to mail.autosoldnow.com, when I look up my other mail
servers most of them point to there-IP.providername.com

I am asking because emails are still backing up in Exchange. :(

Andrew
