I just ignored the failure and set the name as it is known on the internet. So far, it is working. Email is going out and coming back in. I checked the DNS Report and the error is not there any longer. Maybe someone else can enlighten me on that error. When I enter the FQDN for the delivery of SMTP (MAIL.autosoldnow.com) and click on Check DNS it tells me The domain is not valid. Our FQDN is a .local on our local DNS server, we do have a second forward zone called autosoldnow.com that does have the MX setup as mail.autosoldnow.com -> MAIL.autosoldnow.local. So I ignore the DNS check failing and continue? Right click on the SMTP VS and choose Properties. Click on the tab "Delivery" and then "Advanced". In the box labelled DNS enter what the server is known as on the internet On my exchange 2003 the box is labeled Fully-qualified domain name and not DNS but I believe it is the correct name. Enter the name that your server is known as on the internet. (MAIL.autosoldnow.com) I had the same issue with my email system. I don't think email was being blocked but when I checked out our information on that DNS web site I had the same warning about my mail servers claiming to be something different than what they are known as on the internet. They claimed to be what they are known as on our internal network. Now I have to figure out that SPF record thing. News to me. When the other email system tries to look up the ip address via a reverse dns lookup the ip address lookup returns mail.autosoldnow.com. These two names are clearly not the same so the other email server will think you are a spammer. You need your exchange server to claim it is mail.autosoldnow.com when it tries to send mail not asnmail.autosoldnow.local WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name).
