Hi Devin

Yes. A remote desktop session does work OK. I also tried removing VNC and for a while it did seem to fix the problem. but after a while I did see it again. The only common factor for me was Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 9.x.

Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul Lemonidis..

Do you have any software that tries to auto log into the console? It almost sounds like the server lockout from bad password is set to an extreme amount of time. I know you said everything other than console access works fine and no errors are showing in the event log...but have you tried remote desktop'ing in? If so, does the terminal session work fine?

What all software are you running on it besides the standard server install? I think John's suggestion is a very good place to start.

I would suggest as a test to remove VNC from one of the servers and observe
what happen during the next several days.

Just because it has been working fine for 6 months does not mean there is no
problem.

Hi paul

I totally agree with you. Although we are running Customized VNC on the
servers but I dn't think its causing problem as the software has been
working on the server from last 6 months. This erratic behavior of server is
causing a lot of problem to me.

Hi Ripon

I have seen this a number of times and no one seems to have an answer
including PSS. I know of at least 7 or 8 people that have also seen this but
as yet no one seems any the wiser. I have seen it on both DC's and member
servers. The only vaguely consistent trait may be TightVNC. Do you it
installed by any chance? I was hoping SP1 might resolve this but it is so
erratic in most cases that it is almost impossible to trace.

Any more ideas greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul Lemonidis.

Hi

I'm facing a peculiar problem in my windows 2003 servers. All the servers
are running with latest security patches. The problem occur once in a week .

Problem : After logging off the username and password area in the winlogon
screen grey out. It become disable and hence no logon locally to the server
can be made. All other services of server are running and working fine.
There is no error log in the event viewer .

Thanks and Best Regards
