Ours sits within the firewalls, however, we can get hotmail IM as well as
internal but you need to add a registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService\Policies\ExchangeConn
to 1
Don't know if this is what you are really looking for.
So the only fiewall that it goes across is to the outside world.

did you manage to get it to work across firewalls? we have an exchange
server in a DMZ (with a public IP), and clients behind the firewall have
private IPs.
I've played around with the 'this server is behind a firewall' options, to
no use...
how is yours configured?

Is anyone out there using Instant messaging? We have been using it a while
now and there are a few things that I would like to know how to do.
Firstly I'd like to monitor for anyone abusing the tool and just having a
good old chin wag rather than for working purposes. Any ideas?
Secondly I would like to add some "My Status" statements such as "Gone for a
Fag" "Out to dinner" "Busy with my bit on the side - Back in two minutes to
an hour" Does anyone know how to add these?
