Interesting. That's the way it is in English Canada, or at the very least,
in Alberta. As for Quebec, qui sait?
I disagree with that stance too as a taxpayer. It makes no sense that
administration (principals, etc. but not the Board trustees) shares the same
union with its teachers/employees. If, during a strike, the Board wants to
bring in substitutes, what is the principal supposed to do? Well, she's on
strke too. Her/his interests should be those of the Board, whom she/he
serves. It could never happen like that in industry, at least not in N.
America.
Please note that I am not offering any opinions on the state of teaching in
Israel. That is beyond my ken. But a raw nerve was touched vis-a-vis unions.
As a volunteer in the school system for several years, I saw the union
behaviour closer that most and I did not like it. But that's another story
for another day.
