**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** >I >havesaid for years that administration people and rank and file teachers >should NOT be in the same union; unfortunately, and with a total lack of >logic- -typical of Israel- -it has always been this way. Reason/s >for my objection: different goals, different considerations, >different points of view. Interesting. That's the way it is in English Canada, or at the very least, in Alberta. As for Quebec, qui sait? I disagree with that stance too as a taxpayer. It makes no sense that administration (principals, etc. but not the Board trustees) shares the same union with its teachers/employees. If, during a strike, the Board wants to bring in substitutes, what is the principal supposed to do? Well, she's on strke too. Her/his interests should be those of the Board, whom she/he serves. It could never happen like that in industry, at least not in N. America. Please note that I am not offering any opinions on the state of teaching in Israel. That is beyond my ken. But a raw nerve was touched vis-a-vis unions. As a volunteer in the school system for several years, I saw the union behaviour closer that most and I did not like it. But that's another story for another day.
