The real problem is that every hard return in ms word is given a
paragraph designation, whether or not it is meant to actually be a
literary paragraph.

Actually that isn't arbitrary at all. Indenting to the third cell is the
BANA standard for paragraphs and DBT follows BANA standards by default
in North America.

That said, if you wish to produce braille according to a non-standard
format, it should be possible to change it in DBT. If you are having
trouble changing a style or creating a template and making it stick,
perhaps a call to our tech support would be in order. The number is
978-692-3000. You will need to have your license number available, which
you can find by opening DBT and going to Help/About DBT (Alt-H-A). You
can also contact support electronically by following this link:

I'm hoping someone will be able to assist me with this question.
I am trying to modify the paragraph style. I don't like the fact that
Duxbury arbitrarily puts the first word of all paragraphs imported from
word, in the third space. I can enter the [svprg[ parameters at the
beginning of each document, but I don't want to have to do that. I
first tried making a template which included the [svprg] parameters I
wanted, but I didn't get the effect I wanted. The parameters I entered
were [svprg1:1:1]. This did work for me in previous versions. I next
tried modifying the style. I entered [ind0] to replace the beginning
code [p], but it doesn't stay in effect. Every time I look at the style
again, the [p] has come back. I did save the setting by pressing the ok
button after entering the parameters in the paragraph style. It used to
be so much easier when Duxbury allowed you to set paragraph style to
none rather than making the decision all paragraphs should be indented.
That really messes with poetry mode, which I use a lot.
