Chris,
        I'm a composer who does the preproduction work for his CDs at home.
I ahveno mics and have an exclusively MIDI and soft synth setup:

Kurzweil K2500R with contemporary and orchestral ROM blocks and maxed out
RAM 128MBAlso has its own CD ROM drive and an iomega Jazz drive connected
with SCSI cables in its own dedicated chain not connected to the DAW.

Vienna Symphonic Library 
Vienna Insrumnens Solo Strings
Appassionata Strings
Specrrasonics
Stylus RMX
Atmosphere
Both used rarely
Synthogy Ivory
Lounge Lizard
GPO 4
Giga Studio 3 running on separate dedicated computer with Frontier
Wavecenter PCI card
DAW
Runs Sonar 8.53 Producer
MOTU 2408 and 2408 MKIII
MIDI interface
eMagic Unitor 8 mk2 Extinct
Cmputer runs XP home and has three hard drives, system, sounds and
recording.  
There's also a MOTU digital timepiece to synchronize the Giga and DAW
computers.  
That's all I can remember right now.
