With a decent room/mic/mic placement/guitar, you should be able to get a usable tone with a mic. Generally, I'll choose a mic for strums/riffs/solos, but lately will use a mic and also record the direct signal from the pickup, depends on the tune. By recording both, you have more options when mixing.

Hi all, Many over here with a quick question. When recording an acoustic guitar, is it better to use a microphone or the pickup on it. Does it make a difference when recording an acoustic strum compared to lead rifts. Thanks, manny
