Omar, not sure if roland's arrangers work like Yamaha's, but for Yamaha
arranger keyboards, the machine is always in multitimberal mode. However if you
select a style, it automatically readjusts channels 9 through 16 (the channels
that the styles use) and so the best way to go about it on these keyboards is
just to run them without any styles loaded, since styles do their own internal
routing. This is one of the main difference between an arranger and workstation
like the motif for example, where the motif you have to be in song or pattern
mode in order to use more than 1 channel/track, for the arrangers I've had, I
literally just turn them on and send the data from sonar (assuming i/o is
correct) and sonar will send the patch and bank info for each channel and the
keyboard plays everything back fine, without switching to any particular style
or song etc. Now Roland might be a little different, but it's something you
might want to investigate.
Try this, turn off the keyboard. If you can, do a global reset on it. Turn it
on, when it comes up in its normal state (usually the home screen with a piano
voice loaded), then open a new sonar project, insert a midi track, set the
output of the track to the Roland, record some notes into the track (using the
keyboard or the event list or setp sequencer), then select channel 1 for the
track, and see if it plays. If it does, select channel 2 and play again, try
this for those particular channels that weren't working before, see what
happens.
Make sure that you haven't altered any sonar settings or keyboard settings such
as clock transmit, MTC settings or anything like that, which you usually have
to do in order to be able to record any midi from the keyboard itself. If you
changed anything in SONAR, set them back to the defaults. Also if you can, do a
global reset on the keyboard just to make sure you are starting from scratch.
Also, what type of connection are you using, USB? MIDI? If MIDI, what interface
are you connecting it with? And have you checked your cables?

Mike, can you think of any reasons why channels 6, 11, 12, 14, and 16 aren't
working between sonar and my arranger? I spoke with Roland, and one suggestion
they had was that the parts were muted or turned off in whatever style I'm on
when opening sonar. That has proven untrue, however. The same issue happens no
matter what style I use when opening sonar. So I'm assuming it's a global fix
of some sort.
