Just a quick comment to reiterate that although SONAR 8.5 will run under
Windows 10, CakeTalking will not reliably do so. Dancing Dots cannot support
CakeTalking running under any version of Windows beyond Windows7. The problem
is that CakeTalking will install and it may appear to work as expected. But
suddenly you will find that key functions fail. After Windows7, Microsoft
dropped support for the Windows Classic theme which CakeTalking requires in
order to accurately predict the position of certain objects on the screen.

I have the ins def file for it if you want it. They're a big cumbersome because
of the way roland set up the banks and patches.
have you successfully created your own style in the unit?

you own the e-a7? have you tried it with sonar yet? have you tried
somposing a style from the unit itself?

Hi,
I have the newer roland e-a7. The issue isn't a question of banks
and patches. There's just no sound coming through on those
particular tracks that I mentioned. As far as creating the style on
the unit itself, it might be possible, but the difficult part would
be the micro editing. For example, if you want all the highhats
velocity set on 90, there's no accurate way of doing that.

Yamaha in my opinion, is the best when it comes to accessibility.
Creating a style is difficult and should be done on the unit itself.
As far as the sounds, you need to know the bank and patch number
for each midi track.
For example, bank 0 and patch 71 would give you the general midi
clarinet.
Now bank 114 and patch 71 would give you a clarinet for the Yamaha
PSR and Tyros arrangers.
Let's say, if you wanted the drum kit for the PSR and Tyros, the
bank number
is 16256 and the patch numbers starting at 0 through 127 would
select the various drum kits.
You need to find the midi chart for your Roland, this would show
you the bank and patch number for the sounds.
Each manufacture has a bank number assigned to it.
Also, there may be many banks available.
For example, the Tyros, banks start around 110 through 122.
Using the example patch 71, by changing the banks above, would
give you different fariations of the Tyros clarinet.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I am actually trying to record an accompaniment style.
However, I'm also trying to use the keyboard only as a sound
generator in a standard 16-track midi file, and some of the
tracks aren't generating any sound.

arrangers with sonar with no problem. However if what you are
trying to do is record a accompaniment as midi for example, be
prepared to roll up your sleeves as they say :)

Subject: [ddots-l] question about aranger keyboards and sonar
Hello,
Has anyone on here ever used arranger keyboards with sonar to
create styles? I'm using a new Roland keyboard and arranger
keyboards seem pretty quirky in sonar and aren't at all like sequencer
keyboards.
